Former Federal Bureau of Investigation head James the former director has entered an innocent plea to giving untrue testimony to lawmakers and hindering a legislative process.
Mr Comey's legal representative submitted the answer on his behalf in a federal court in the Virginia city of Alexandria on Wednesday morning.
Patrick Fitzgerald stated he would attempt to have the proceedings terminated for various causes including that his defendant, a opponent of former President Trump, was being singled out.
Mr Comey was indicted just days after Trump pressured his chief prosecutor to proceed against him.
In court on mid-week, Comey's lawyer the legal representative advised the magistrate they planned to present multiple legal requests to terminate the proceedings before a legal hearing, stating the government's case was vindictive and that a federal prosecutor was wrongfully assigned to handle the case.
James Comey's proceedings was initially handled by the original attorney, who stepped down under influence from the former president after his examination into a different rival - the New York official - was unable to bring criminal charges.
The former director seemed in positive mood as he entered the court on mid-week, chatting with his legal team and sharing humor. He was supported by his partner, Patrice Failor and child his daughter, a government attorney who the former government terminated.
Upon hearing to the court read his rights and the pair of allegations against him in legal proceedings on mid-week, James Comey was asked if he comprehended the accusations.
"I do your honour. Thank you very much," he informed the judge.
The former director was the head of the FBI from four years and was terminated about several months into Trump's first term as national leader. At the time, Mr Comey was overseeing an probe into Russian election interference and whether there were any links between Moscow and the election effort.
During his tenure, Mr Comey triggered a backlash from Democrats when he stated just days before the 2016 election that he was probing presidential nominee Hillary Clinton's use of a personal email system. Charges against Hillary Clinton were not filed, leading to negative feedback from conservative politicians as well.
The federal government assert James Comey lied to Congress during a congressional hearing in 2020 when he was being interrogated about both the email probe as well as the Russia election probe. They allege he deceived the legislative body by stating he had not authorized an individual at the FBI to disclose to journalistic entities data about the government examinations.
Legal representatives also accuse James Comey of "wrongfully trying to influence, obstruct and impede" the committee by providing untrue information to it.
Through a recording Mr Comey shared to his Instagram after he was accused, he declared he was innocent and accused Trump of acting like a "tyrant".
"My family and I have known for considerable time that there are costs to challenging Mr Trump," he stated. "We will not live on our knees."
"I have done nothing wrong," he continued. "Thus initiate a court case."
The accusations against James Comey surfaced after Trump shared on social media calling for his chief prosecutor, Pam Bondi, charge the former director and others.
